If you’ve watched me make updates today to this place, you’ll no doubt have noticed the rapidly changing color schemes, pages, etc. as well as the new logo. This is the first time I created something less complicated than the previous year. The new logo comes in light and dark flavors. It has an obvious emphasis on the two 2000′s; the CPS 2000 as the cannon, and the Max-D 2000 as the sidearm to illustrate HBWW’s inclusiveness of a large variety of blasters from small to large. The background used to be a water texture/pattern that was reduced to two colors and gives a much more vague and mysterious look than it did before. In addition, it is much easier to adapt this to various aspect ratio and resolutions without loosing much or any of the image. Perhaps the greatest motivation for the change of art style, however, is the fact that I didn’t have time to go make more stuff in 3D.

Lastly, the map has been updated:

Dude, I really love what you’ve done with this site. Sometimes you have to realize less is more. I think HBWW will be better on WordPress, and I actually like your more simple logo. Also, the little touches you added to the map look sick. Did you do this in photoshop? I may have to do maps like this in the future. Paint looks so…. 15 years ago.
I don’t think it’s a matter of it being on WordPress (other than the fact that everything is so much faster to work with), but a matter of art style. I didn’t even see it as a matter of less being more, just as a different way of doing things to create a different look and feel. The darker/less saturated colors as well as the fact that there’s far fewer of them convey a much different feel and style than what I had before. It used to be all “Look at how fun and awesome water warfare is!”, and changed to “This is water warfare. Kinda chill with a hint of badass.”
I used Fireworks for most of the art on the site actually. Photoshop can do most of the same stuff though. Message on Facebook for more details on the graphics.
